Delphi maintenance and modernisation

Plenty of companies run on a Delphi application that has done exactly what they need for years — until the developer stops or Windows changes again. We take that work over.

The application works fine. It is just that nobody can touch it any more.

The original developer has retired or moved on. The source code sits on a drive somewhere, the Delphi version it was built with is years old, and nobody dares change anything in it. Meanwhile your day-to-day operation still depends on it.

An application like that does not have to be thrown away. It usually holds years of knowledge about how you work — knowledge you cannot simply buy back in an off-the-shelf package. We make sure it can be worked on again, and you decide where it goes from there.

From stopgap to full modernisation

Which of these steps you need depends on the state of the application and on what you want to do with it. We always start by looking at what is actually there.

Maintenance and development

Fixing faults, extending functionality and rolling out new versions. Simply having someone to turn to again for the software you depend on daily.

Version upgrade

Bringing an old Delphi version up to a current one, including the move from 32-bit to 64-bit and the third-party components that come with it, such as DevExpress.

From desktop to web

With TMS WebCore, existing Delphi code runs in the browser. That gives you a web version alongside or instead of the desktop client, without rebuilding everything.

Databases and integrations

Database design, migration to a different database platform, and integrations over REST/JSON or SOAP — with your accounting package, for instance.

Taking over the code

If nobody knows the application any more, we work through the source, document how it behaves and put everything under version control. After that, developing further is routine again.

Getting your team up to speed

Are your own developers taking on Delphi as well? We guide and coach them, so the knowledge stays with you rather than with us.

Delphi runs like a thread through our work

Since Apptimate was founded in 2001 there has not been a year without Delphi. That work has ranged from business applications for logistics and property management to administrative systems for oil trading and storage, order tracking in the automotive sector, financial risk analysis and calculation models for research.

Alongside Delphi itself we work with Lazarus and FreePascal, with component libraries such as DevExpress and TMS WebCore, and with the databases these applications tend to run on: MS-SQL, MySQL and MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Firebird, Interbase and ElevateDB.

Protecting Delphi software against reverse engineering

Delphi is not the only thing we do

An integration in Python, a web application in PHP or JavaScript, reporting straight out of SQL: in practice a solution rarely consists of a single language. We pick what fits the problem, not the other way round.
