Phishing and fake webshops are becoming ever more professional. A fake bank page or a shop with absurd discounts often looks convincing these days — which is exactly why it is so valuable to recognise the recurring red flags. That is why Apptimate developed two free, interactive practice environments where you can train safely, without any risk.

VeiligBank — a fake bank and payment page

The first demo shows a fake login screen and a fake payment screen for the fictional bank "VeiligBank". Hidden throughout the page are dozens of warning signals: an address that isn't right, artificial time pressure ("your account will be blocked within 24 hours"), language mistakes, a request for your PIN and TAN code, and a payment disguised as "verification". You learn exactly what to look for before entering your details anywhere.

MegaOutlet — a too-good-to-be-true webshop

The second demo is a fake webshop with 85% discounts, a countdown timer, fake reviews and suspicious payment methods. Here too, the red flags of online fraud are made visible step by step, so you learn to spot when an offer is nothing more than bait.

Two ways to practise

Both demos work the same way. Choose "Show signals & explanation" to see every red flag with an explanation, or start the quiz against the clock and test how many suspicious spots you can find yourself. At the end there is a handy checklist of rules of thumb and the "green flags" of a genuine, trustworthy environment. The demos are available in Dutch and English.
